Coronavirus – Network Science and AI Can Help Finding the Fastest Solutions

 В Blog, Co-operation, covid-19

In the recent weeks, global news has been dominated by the Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China. The number of deaths has surpassed now the number of people claimed by SARS virus in 2002-2003 in mainland China and the number of infections also jumped significantly. It seems that it is getting more and more difficult to contain the virus.

As time is of the essence, we need a cure and we need it fast. After the SARS outbreak in 2003, the WHO brought together a network of laboratories all around the world (using the latest technology to share the results real-time) to examine the virus and prevent future outbreaks from happening.*

In 2020, the need for co-operation is much higher, as our world is more interconnected and we created new pathways for the virus to spread.  With the help of network science and AI, WHO should take a leading role in managing the network of experts and ensure

1. it runs at the highest efficiency level and
2. all the necessary connections exist for decision-making and information-sharing.

Another key element in this equation is the willingness to co-operate: to create trust and make sure that all the participating laboratories are working towards the common goal of finding the cure to the Coronavirus.

Analysing the work cooperation and trust networks between scientists, medical professionals and state authorities can be best done with organizational analytics tools relying on artificial intelligence. The findings and recommendations of such systems can make cooperation exponentially more efficient and may substantially reduce the time needed for finding the best defence actions against the virus.
